The Best Present is Art

Tuğba Kırallı

Her journey in photography started in 2007. Since then, her work has been included in numerous collective exhibitions presented by IFSAK (Association of Amateurs of Photography and Cinema), Phototrek, and Photogen.

In 2012, her collaborative series Istanbul Symphony Orchestra, created with photographer Bekir Tuğcu, awarded the Sami Güner Cup, the country’s most prestigious photography award. Same year, her project Child Boxers was featured at the Photography Festival, further establishing her presence on contemporary photography in the country.

Her most known project A Story of a Performance garnered the IFSAK Cup in 2013 and was subsequently exhibited at the Istanbul Photography Festival in 2014, marking a significant milestone in her artistic career. Through her aesthetic lens, flawless figure of ballerinas freezes for a moment with a strong feeling and story. She emphasizes the strength, and the elegance of female while the artist reflects poetic beauty in chaos. By focusing on details rather than stage Kiralli reveals the poetry of in-between moments and transforms the rehearsals into timeless and sculptural scenes.

Beyond her own practice, Kiralli has engaged in socially driven initiatives, most notably the projects Female Workers and Female Colours of Istanbul. Through these, she shared her knowledge with immigrant women, offering lectures at Kadir Has University.

Her first solo exhibition was realized in 2017, presenting a consolidated vision of her artistic inquiry.

Kiralli is currently pursuing her ongoing long-term project The Woman of Black Sea, while simultaneously contributing to the collective initiative Being a Worker in Turkey. Both projects extend her exploration of identity, labor, and the poetics of representation.
