One of the foremost travel and documentary photographers of Turkey, Faruk Akbas has been taking photographs professionally for 35 years worldwide. In his photographs he uses human element predominantly within the environment and space. His photographs have been published in journals and newspapers such as National Geographic, Daily Telegraph, Hürriyet and Cumhuriyet (Two most read newspapers of Turkey). Skylife and Journey Magazines have given place to his photographs . His photographs capturing nature, cultural and historical values were published in prestigious books of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey and published by well-known institutions and organizations such as Eczacibasi in Turkey. Since 1995, as the author of Photography Magazine, Akbas has been publishing many books such as Photo Guide of Turkey, Travel Photography, Photography in Digital World, Photography in Pocket and Practical Composition in Photography In 1993, Akbas founded The Photography House (Fotoğrafevi) in İstanbul, where many photography exhibitions, workshops, bull sessions and similar activities were held. Akbas also established the Art Camp in Kayaköy in 1999. He took place as a jury member in various film and photography competitions. He has shot fashion, automotive, tourism photographs and produced promotional videos for domestic and foreign companies including Polimeks, Ford, Isuzu and Craghoppers Akbaş arranged photo road trips from Turkey to Asia and Africa by a Yellow Bus. The documentary films he produced throughout these trips were broadcast as ‘Travelling Far Away’ in TRT ( Turkish radio and Television) and İz channel ( Documentary TV Channel of Turkey) . He shot nature and life documentaries of TEMA (The Turkish Foundation Combating Erosion, deforestation and protecting habitat). He shot a documentary movie concerning authentic costumes of Anatolia. He performed the test shooting of Nokia cell phones in Nepal. His work was exhibited in international L'OREAL photography shows. Akbas also made documentary series titled ‘In the pusuit of Light’ for TRT documentary channel. Currently, Faruk Akbaş is organizing photography tours to mostly undiscovered gems in Turkey and pursues his role as a photography guide and consultant in photo trips to the interesting places all around the world.
