Born in 1970, Tuğcu is a neurosurgeon and photographer whose practice is grounded in documentary traditions. He began his photographic journey in 1990 at IFSAK (Association of Amateurs of Photography and Cinema), where he developed a visual language shaped by humanistic inquiry and social observation.
Tuğcu’s work explores the interconnectedness of human beings, environment, and nature, seeking to reveal the authentic narratives embedded in everyday life. Through a restrained yet evocative narrative style, he constructs visual stories that foreground lived experience and collective memory.
His projects—including Charcoal Workers, Mardin, Mannequins, Forever, and the collaborative series Tersane-i Amire with Tugba Kiralli—have been presented in numerous national and international group exhibitions and featured in respected photography publications.
Tuğcu’s photographs have received recognition in competitions organized by FIAP (Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique), PSA, and UPI. In 2012, FIAP awarded him the distinction of AFIAP (Artist of FIAP), acknowledging his artistic contribution to international photography.
Alongside his artistic production, Tuğcu is committed to education and mentorship, sharing his expertise through lectures and workshops with emerging photographers and photography enthusiasts.
